One letter distinguishes Arabic from other languages.

The Arabic language is a unique language, distinguished throughout history by its eloquence and powerful expression.

And among all its letters, the letter ض (ḍād) stood out as a symbol of this language, until it became known as the “language of ض”, as it is a rare letter that does not appear clearly in most other languages.

The Arabs used to boast about their ability to pronounce this letter, as they considered it evidence of eloquence and mastery of the language.

The letter ض has a specific way of being pronounced, where the sound comes out from the edges of the tongue (right and left) along with the corresponding molars and the gum of the upper molars, and the tip of the tongue (i.e., its head) is attached to the roots of the upper incisors (i.e., not attached to the incisors, but to their roots, i.e., the tip of the tongue is attached). (in the winding area of ​​the upper palate).

This adhesion causes the tongue to move forward slightly and then back, and this is called elongation.

This elongation leads to another characteristic, which is pushing the sound into the mouth, and this is called laxity.

It is not permissible to break this attachment (i.e., the attachment between the tip of the tongue and the roots of the upper incisors), as it is one of the features that distinguish the pronunciation of the letter ض.

The back of the tongue is attached to the upper palate, and this is the characteristic of elevation, and it is one of the most important things that distinguishes the pronunciation of the letter ض from the rest of the letters.

Because of these characteristics, the letter ض is considered one of the most difficult sounds to pronounce for non-Arabic speakers, and therefore it became a symbol of the Arabic language.

As a result of this distinction, the letter ض became a symbol of Arabic, the language of literature, poetry, and oratory.

Many words contain this letter, such as: land, city, eggs, and others.

And with the passage of time, and despite the development of languages ​​and the changing times, the Arabic language has retained its distinctive title, “the language of the letter Ḍād”, which still pulsates with its beauty and strength to this day.
